How ecgme improves General Practice
Palpitations are among the most common cardiovascular presentations in Australian general practice. While most cases are benign, a clinically significant proportion involves arrhythmias that require timely identification and intervention.
ecgme® is a TGA-approved Class IIa medical device, a single-lead, hand-held ECG event recorder designed for instant cardiac rhythm assessments during medical consultations. Its portability and simplicity enable point-of-care ECG recordings that can be performed by clinical or non-clinical staff, even before a patient sees the doctor.

Features
Hand-held single lead ECG monitor configurable up to 5 minutes recording duration
Side electrode can monitor any single 12 lead position on the body.
On-body adaptor converts the device from hand-held operation to on-body 24-hour continuous ECG monitoring.

Case Studies
Positive impact is being made with ecgme in clinical use, and Biosignals is delighted to share the following two cases of actual patients under management of Cardiologist and A/Prof. Stephan Foy.
Lynn, a 64 year old woman has episodes of palpitations that she describes as her “heart missing a beat”. These are intermittent and most often noticeable at night. The episodes can continue for many hours. She often has an elevated heart rate during these episodes. It seems to precipitate a cough. The episodes result in anxiety about her heart health. She was advised that ECG showed ectopic beats, but with her more frequent and prolonged episodes she has never had ECG confirmation of the episodes. I recommended she acquire an ecgme device from www.biosigdx.com to provide her with the confidence of recording her heart rhythm, so as to provide herself with reassurance. Some months later, she returned to see me with multiple recordings on her “ecgme” device that show atrial and ventricular ectopic beats during her episodes of palpitations. One recording shows a sinus pause of a few seconds duration. We discussed the benign nature of her ectopic beats, which she feels will go a long way to reducing her anxiety. She was advised that asymptomatic and infrequent brief pauses are of no immediate concern, but if these become longer or symptomatic, she will require permanent pacemaker.
Phil, 73 year old man has been experiencing infrequent palpitations that were more frequent during the colder months. He does not have any untoward symptoms during palpitation episodes; no dizziness, no black out. I spoke with him in October about recording his ECG during an episode and advised that he obtain a TGA approved hand held ECG event monitor (ecgme) from www.biosigdx.com. He has had one episode of palpitation since obtaining his ecgme device and recorded the event in December. The PDF of 30s recording was sent to me as a text message; it confirms atrial fibrillation. He was commenced on an anticoagulant to reduce his risk of stroke due to paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. He contacted me 3 months later, thanking me for the “health confidence” that he has gained with a confirmed diagnosis and appropriate treatment. He stated that he had just completed his longest ocean swim, 3.8km; the event is now an annual family tradition. The company appreciates Stephan sharing these two examples of how ecgme® is making a difference in clinical care.
